Game Rundown:

Today's game features two of Long Island's top teams. State Champion West Babylon who comes in with a 13-2 record and 13-0 East Islip. Both teams come in with a lot in common. Both play solid defense, both hit the ball very good and both teams are solid on the mound and behind the plate. Will pitching keep the score down? Will it be an offensive showcase? Today's match up features East Islip's Megan Sweezy vs. West Babylon's Chelsea Shea.

Brianna Waszak led off the game for West Babylon with a single up the middle. After failing to move the runner over for the first out, Melani Maxwell walked and Liz Escobar singled to load the bases. Danielle Messina stepped up to the plate and drilled a shot into the left centerfield gap for a bases clearing double. Danielle was stranded at 2nd as Sweezy came back to strike out the next two hitters but the damage was already done.

West Babylon's second started quietly as the first 2 batters were retired then lead off batter Brianna Waszak walked and Brianna Scotto singled. Waszak took third on the play but Scotto wandered to far around first and was trapped in a run down. Heads up base running saw Waszak break for the plate and she crossed the plate before the third out was recorded at second base. After 2 West Babylon lead 4-0.

East Islip's Lindsey Zenk unloaded on a shot to lead off the 5th inning for a triple. Shea retired the next 2 batters but couldn't put away Danielle Groneman as she singled to right to drive in what turned out to be East Islip's only run of the game.

Melani Maxwell lead off with a walk, took second on an errant pick off attempt and stole third. Liz Escobar then walked to put runners on the corners. Escobar was stealing second as the ball got away from the EI catcher but Maxwell was caught a little to far off of third and the rundown was on. As EI chased Maxwell toward the plate she managed to avoid the tag and West Babylon scored their 5th run of the game. Shea went on to retire 6 of the next 7 batters she faced to end the game and hand East Islip their first defeat of the season.

Final Score:  West Babylon 5, East Islip 1
