Game Rundown:

The game that everyone has been waiting for is finally here. Suffolk counties top dogs facing off against each other on a beautiful 60 degree day here in Bay Shore.

Brentwood comes limping into the game after falling to Patchogue 2-0 and having to come back against Sachem North. Down 8-2 vs. Sachem they scored 7 runs to win a wild one 9-8.

Bay Shore in the meantime just keeps rolling along like the well-oiled machine they are. They take on their toughest test of the year. BS's Liz Weber will face off against Brentwood's Nicole Flint in one of the top pitching match ups of the season. Nicole is just 6 strike outs short of 500 career strike outs.

Brentwood brings its slugging mentally into today's match up against BS's defensive minded system.

Brentwood went down 1-2-3 in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first Kelsey Fischer hit a one out bomb over the center fielder's head for a triple. Weber followed with a walk and quickly stole second to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. Cat Franzone singled to left to knock in 2 runs and BS ended the inning with a 2-0 lead.

In the 4th inning Vanessa Acosta led off with a single to right but Weber got Brentwood's #4 hitter to line out to short and then got the 5 hitter to hit into a 6-3 double play. In the bottom of the 4th Nicole reached a milestone as she struck out her 6th batter of the game to end the inning and pick up her 500th career strike out. After the inning Coach McGowan awarded Nicole with the ball she threw for her 500th.

The bottom of the fifth saw some more BS fire works. Nikki Surkes lead off single was followed by a one out Liz Weber single. BS had 1st and 2nd with one out and Cat Franzone stepped up to the plate. Once again Cat delivered with a 2 run single up the middle to give BS a 4-0 lead after 5.

At this point, everything was going BS's way but Brentwood would not lie down. Erica Edwards led off with a 4 pitch walk. With one out Hillary Genova singled to center and took second on the throw to third. Vanessa Acosta singled to center to drive in 2 runs and cut BS's lead in half. You could feel the change of momentum as Brentwood finally established itself in the game. Bay Shore would have none of that as they came right back and scored a run to give them a 5-2 lead and just about put Brentwood away. I guess no one told Brentwood that they were down 5-2 in the 7th vs. Bay Shore and Liz Weber.

Lauren Busemi led off with a single followed by a misplayed ground ball giving Brentwood 1st and second with 0 outs. Weber got the next 2 outs and everything seemed to settle down but Shaakira Samad drove a 2 out triple over the right fielders head to bring Brentwood to within a run at 5-4. Hillary Genova stepped up and Weber quickly ran the count to 0 balls and 2 strikes. On the next pitch Hillary drove the ball for game tying single and we were off to extra innings. After a lead off single by Kristen Flint, Weber settled down to retire the next 3 hitters and head into the bottom of the 8th. Jaime Mullane hit a soft line drive off the end of the bat toward the second baseman but when it hit the ground it took a crazy hop for a lead off infield single. # 9 hitter Amber Fogarty laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt to move Mullane to 2nd. Nikki Surkes was the next batter singling to center to win the game for Bay Shore who remains undefeated. Brentwood took their second loss of the season.

Final Score: Bay Shore 6, Brentwood 5

A large crowd showed up and even the East Islip team and coaches cut their practice short to come watch the match up of 2 of Long Island's top teams. This was a great game and one we are glad we had the chance to cover.
